At Berkelland treatment center in Rekken, clients with behavioral problems often after criminal convictions live in a closed department. For this housing facility the outdoor spaces were secured with a Lalace Butterfly enclosure ensuring safety and controlled access.

The rehabilitation center needed to ensure that outdoor courtyards and walking areas were safely enclosed, preventing unauthorized exit while allowing a humane, non-oppressive atmosphere. The problem was how to design secure fencing for a high-security therapeutic environment that didn’t feel prison-like or overly harsh for residents undergoing treatment.
Redfort’s solution was to install Lalace Butterfly enclosures: metal mesh fences with a butterfly wing-inspired pattern. These fences are strong and tall to meet security needs, yet their intricate butterfly design brings a sense of nature and calm. This pattern choice symbolically represents transformation and hope, aligning with the therapeutic goals of the facility. The semi-transparent quality of the lace fence maintains visibility and openness, helping residents feel less confined.
The delivered product is a series of robust Lalace fences and gates installed around the center’s outdoor spaces. The Butterfly pattern in the metal mesh softens the appearance of the security enclosure. It provides all necessary safety functions while significantly improving the visual environment for patients and staff. The butterfly Lalace enclosures demonstrate Redfort’s ability to combine high-security requirements with compassionate design in institutional settings.
