An apartment building’s exterior staircase needed a protective enclosure to prevent falls and unauthorized access. The straightforward solution would be a basic fence or railing, but the client sought a more design-conscious approach that would enhance the building’s appearance rather than detract from it. The challenge was to provide safety and privacy for residents on the stairs in a visually pleasing way.
Redfort introduced a tailored Lalace mesh design as the infill for the stair rails and surrounding enclosure. The pattern chosen complements the building’s architecture, adding an artistic touch. This railing enclosure secures the staircase from ground to landing, with the Lalace mesh preventing climbing and objects from falling through. The design maintains airflow and sightlines, avoiding a boxed-in feel for residents using the stairs.
The finished product is a metal lace staircase enclosure that wraps the apartment’s stairwell. Constructed from galvanized and coated steel, it’s highly durable against weather and daily use. The decorative pattern (resembling a contemporary lace) unifies the staircase with the building’s facade. This Redfort solution not only met all building code and safety requirements but also contributed a stylish architectural detail to the apartment complex, showing how safety infrastructure can be beautiful as well as functional.
