With its volume and materialization, the new school complex forms a structuring element in its urban environment. The detailing is made friendly and inviting for the students by placing Lace fabrics in the public areas.

The modern school building risked feeling sterile or intimidating to younger students due to its concrete and glass architecture. There was a need for safety railings and partitions (on staircases, mezzanines, etc.) that could also introduce warmth and playfulness into the space.
We installed Lalace railing infills with fun, organic patterns (like abstract leaves or waves) in bright colors at student eye-level areas. This not only meets code for fall protection but also breaks up the stark lines of the interior with friendly shapes. By placing these lace panels in common areas, we created visually softer spots that children naturally gravitate towards.
The product is a set of powder-coated metal lace panels used in railings and as low partitions in the school’s lobby and corridors. They are durable for high-traffic use and require minimal maintenance. The patterns chosen were developed with input from the school’s art teachers to ensure they resonate with the students. The school complex now has a structuring element that is both functional and endearing – a signature Redfort touch that shows care for the end-users (the students).
