A new school building needed a facade that would soften its appearance and inspire the students. The bare exterior lacked character and didn’t reflect the creative spirit of the school. The challenge was to design a façade element that brings nature into an urban schoolyard and engages children’s imaginations.
Working closely with the architect, Redfort developed a Lalace metal mesh pattern resembling oversized leaves. This decorative screen was mounted in front of the school’s facade, creating the impression of looking through a leafy canopy. The organic pattern was informed by actual foliage shapes, and spacing between the “leaves” allows light to filter through, mimicking sunlight through trees. The collaborative design process ensured the final pattern was both architecturally suitable and visually delightful for kids.
The product is a custom Lalace façade screen installed as a second skin on the building. Its pattern of interwoven leaves provides shade and visual interest. Children and visitors experience a sense of being under trees even within the city. The architectural fabric adds depth to the facade and has become a landmark feature of the school, proving that functional building elements can also serve as educational art pieces.
