Problem

The Faena Art Center required gates that could secure its entrances without looking like typical security gates. As an art venue, it was important that even the gates reflect creativity and bold design. The challenge lay in manufacturing a complex, image-rich pattern in metal that was robust enough for daily use. Essentially, how to turn a drawing of many tiny icons into a functional gate.

Solution

Using advanced cutting and fabrication techniques, Redfort translated Studio Job’s intricate artwork into metal panels. The design features a collage of symbolic figures and shapes (from pop culture to historical references) intertwined like a storytelling tapestry. These panels were then fabricated as swinging gate doors and fence sections. The solution provides the needed security barrier but does so with flair – visitors are greeted by a puzzle-like artwork even before they enter the center.

Product

The installed gates are made of high-grade steel laser-cut with the detailed pattern and finished in a durable coating suitable for Miami’s climate. When closed, the double gate presents a continuous mural of icons; when open, it divides into pieces that still captivate the eye. The Faena Art Center gates demonstrate Redfort’s capability to execute highly detailed artistic visions in functional architectural elements. They keep the audience “amused and at bay,” fulfilling their security role while enhancing the venue’s artistic ambiance.
