This remarkable project came about because the architect was looking for a way to safeguard the entrée of eight apartments. The façade also needed to show signage and enhance the ‘welcome home’ feeling. We designed the pattern in collaboration with a Japanese artist.

Entrances to apartment buildings often rely on plain functional solutions that prioritize safety over atmosphere. Façade signage is typically added afterward, which can make the design feel fragmented. As a result the entrance may appear closed and unwelcoming instead of inviting residents and visitors.
With Lalace the façade was turned into a design feature that combines several roles. The custom pattern, created together with the Japanese artist, integrates security, signage and ornament into one layer. It allows the building to communicate identity while offering transparency and depth. The entrance is no longer just a threshold but a welcoming expression.
Lalace is a woven mesh system that can be customized in motif, scale, density and curvature. It combines structural integrity with decorative flexibility, making it suitable for façades, ceilings, railings and more. In this project it was applied as a façade element developed in close collaboration with the architect and a Japanese artist, bringing protection and hospitality together in a single design.
