An installation for the National Museum of Scotland. One hundred colourful birds floating through the main hall. Because no substructure is required for the nets, large spans can be made.

Where function meets imagination

Challenge

The National Museum of Scotland needed an installation that filled the main hall with visual impact while keeping the structure lightweight and unobtrusive. Large spans had to be achieved without using a substructure that would disrupt the historic interior.

Solution

Using Redfort’s net system, the team created a suspended installation of one hundred colourful birds. The nets required no supporting substructure, allowing wide openings and a clean integration into the museum’s architecture.

Product

The result is a floating (concept) artwork that brings colour and movement into the main hall. The lightweight net system supports the birds while keeping the space open, turning the atrium into a poetic, immersive experience.
