Elderly care facilities often rely on facades that feel institutional and impersonal, which can alienate residents. Historical or cultural identity may be neglected in favor of purely utilitarian solutions. This can weaken the emotional bond residents feel to their surroundings. Over time, the building may feel detached from the narratives its users carry.
By integrating Lalace mesh with references to traditional fabric patterns, the facade becomes a bridge between memory and space. The design softens the boundary between inside and outside, inviting connection without sacrificing functionality. Residents see traces of familiar motifs, helping the building feel more like home and less like a facility.
Lalace is a woven mesh system suitable for facades, enclosures, screens, gates and more. It allows customization in pattern, density, scale and curvature to align with architectural intentions. In this project Lalace was applied as decorative mesh elements that reference textile heritage, giving the elderly home both protective function and emotional resonance.
