A wind study at Kop van het Dok showed excessive wind at the nearby roundabout. To address this and shield the supermarket's loading area, Vlissingen installed a windscreen designed by Buro MA.AN. Inspired by the Schelde shipyard's history, the screen features a collage of archive images transformed into colorful "dedots" on a 4-meter fence. This striking screen reduces wind impact and enhances the Scheldekwartier entrance.

Windy conditions at the roundabout and adjacent loading area created discomfort, safety hazards, and movement of debris. Conventional barriers would block views or feel industrial and unwelcoming. A purely functional fence would miss an opportunity to add cultural or visual value to the public realm.
By applying Dedots, the windscreen becomes a dynamic canvas rather than a flat barrier. The archival imagery, translated into dot graphics, gives the fence narrative meaning and visual richness. The mesh structure still provides the physical function of wind protection while remaining porous and expressive. In this way, the wall works technically and symbolically.
Dedots is a modular dot-panel system where colored 3D “dots” are fixed onto steel mesh panels, enabling custom images and motifs. The system allows seamless panel connections via special mounting clips, supports durability, weather resistance and visual complexity. In MMA it was used to clad a four-meter high fence with a graphic collage, turning a windscreen into an architectural artwork.
